I'm just now catching up on this astonishing voice. If Brandi Carlile says it took her “all damn day” to match Yola's vocal prowess, I'm sold! I'm just glad that Yola didn’t keep doing the dance music “screamy thing.”

Sturgill Simpson says he wrote his latest album in two days, and now I’ve basically listened to it on repeat for two days. Fair trade.

Terrorism can’t suppress choral music
I would expect that the affirming and healing powers of music hardly need reiterating for most Uncaged Bird readers, but this is a particularly poignant example. I'm glad the songs are being recorded. You can hear in the audio story a clear example of ululation, which must be one of the loudest head-register sounds possible from the human voice.
