Welcome to the Uncaged Bird newsletter. This issue is a roundup of recent music-related news I found interesting and some of the singing I listened to in the last week. Uncaged Bird also offers in-depth articles on singing, which you can find here.
Sun Ra and His Astro Infinity Arkestra
Honestly, I wouldn’t have enjoyed listening to this album if I didn’t know what the deal was. Each musician is someone who is an accomplished professional on their own instrument but is playing an instrument they don’t know how to play. Yeah.
Prince’s other band
In this interview, Morris Day, lead singer of The Time, a band created by Prince, talks about how much rehearsal the Artist demanded. “…he pushed us really hard, taught us a work ethic: rehearse, rehearse, rehearse.”
We all know David Hasselhoff was big in Germany, but it seems like it's been a while since he's been in the music headlines. This recent music video features The Hoff in a charmingly self-referential cameo. Incidentally, the vocal scream in the middle of the track is a great example of something you can learn to do healthfully.
Have a lovely weekend!
